I found this novel on the Kindle Store for free and so I thought that I would give it a go. I thought that this was a very good read, it kept hold of the readers attention all the way through. Having read quite a few romantic novels some of them end up becoming rather predictable and boring but this book was one that was hard to predict which made it for me to feel unique and not like the other books that I have read previously. The characters of Mary and Tom are really great and the descriptions that the author does of them makes them seem relateable and realistic.

Women of Courage Women of Courage by Tim Vicary
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Edition: Kindle

I found this set of novels on the Kindle Store for free and so I thought that I would give them a go. I really enjoyed reading all three of the novels, I don't read many historical novels like this one but when I read the storyline at the back I just knew that it would be a good read and I was right about that. It was very well written with a few little spelling mistakes (which I expect when reading a Kindle version).
The first book is called Cat & Mouse in which a British Suffragette called Sarah Becket who faces a prison term for demonstating womens right to vote. The secone book is called The Blood upon the Rose in which a young Irish medical student Catherine O' Connell-Gort who fights for the end of the British rule in Ireland. She has to choose between her family and her lover (a young IRA volunteer), her country or her class. The third book is called In the Monmouth Summer in which young Ann Carter is torn by similar choice to Catherine O'Connell-Gort. It is set in 1685 where the Puritans rise up in revolt in the support of the Duke of Monmouth against King James II (the Catholic King of England)
These are great books for fans of historical novels as they have been really well researched by the author, the characters are fictional but the events that they are involved in are all true, and the choices that all three women had to make were exactly the type of ones some women at that time would also have to face.

I found this novel on the Kindle Store for free and so I thought that I would give it a try. This novel is a lighthearted and fun story to read, it isn't serious and has a few funny moments in it. The main character Mia is very well developed and described in this book (which can be read as a stand alone book) and her group of friends are all very likeable and relateable. It is a rather girly book, which does contain some real life situations that some might be able to relate too.

I was drawn to this book by its cover and the fact that it was set in the 1640s, prior to the Great Fire of London, a period of history I enjoy reading about.

I,Coriander is a beautifully written book full of description and intrigue. I read it in two days needless to say I couldnt put it down! The chapters are short and snappy. If you enjoy history thrown together with fairy magic, sorcery and the lives of Coriander and her step sister Hester this is a book for you. It's totally different from any book I have read before but I'm glad I gave it a try.

This book is a good mix of crime and romance, set in Singapore which the main character Leah returns to when her father mysteriously dies. This is a novel that is full of suspence, you wont even realise just how hooked you are on it. If you like a novel that is packed full of action and suspense than this is definately the book for you. I wont saw much about the plot so I dont ruin it, but it is one that will defiantely capture your attention, it is incredibly well written.

This book features the character of Thomas Bladen who work on the surveillence unit of the British Government, during his usual routine of checking the cameras he see's a shooting which opens up a world of danger. It is a really great debut novel for Derek Thompson, the characters are all well developed which adds great depth too the novels and makes you really feel like you know them.

I thought that the storyline was a very interesting one and definately one that I could get lost into easily and I wasn't dissappointed, it was a fantastic read! It is incredibly well written by a very talented author.
A book about a Zombie Plague....definately my kind of read, it is set Edinburgh which is very well described, you can actually picture in your imagination the old crumbling city with it's secret garden and hidden communities. It drew me in straight away and when I was away from it, it played on my mind which kept drawing me back to it to find out what happens next.
I am extremely grateful to the author for being given the chance to read this incredible book I would/will definately read more by Mark Wilson!. This book is a must read!

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Published: 2010

I saw the cover of this book and thought that it looked really good as it is a very eye catching cover. As soon as I purchased it I dived right into reading it....then spent about 3/4 of the book being totally baffled and confused as to what was going on and what was happening. But I kept going, determined to finishing it, hoping all will become clear at the end of the novel with all the lose ends being tied up.. however I finished the book and still felt totally confused. I would do a review about what happened but honestly I've still no idea. However the characters in the novel were well described and you could pick out who was talking by the personalities that came through there voice. Jake Arnott is a very good and talented author, I just think that perhaps this book just wasnt for me. But I'd recommend giving it a try if the blurb sounds like your kind of book!

This is a book that doesn't have any dull moments, it has an interesting storyline that will make you want to read it. The characters that she has in the book as realistic, easy to understand and get along with, they are interesting and each bring something to the book. The story is easy to follow without too many overly complicated words so it is fine for young adult readers as well. It is a very well written book, with a very unique story, i would say that it is a modern thriller. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book and it would definately be worth the money to buy it.

Review: The Needle in the Blood

The Needle in the Blood The Needle in the Blood by Sarah Bower
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Published: 01/04/2004
Author: Sarah Bower
Recommended for: fans of historical fiction

I was hooked on this book before I read it by the front cover. It tells of the story of the conquest of Britain by William the Conqueror and the commission of the sewing of the tapestry by Bishop Odo of Bayeux, William's brother depicting the story of the battle.

This book is superbly written in exquisite detail. The story touches on the unlikely romance between Odo and Gytha handmaiden of the fallen Saxon King Harold. I feel as though I have survived the harsh winters with Gytha and the other seamstresses and know their lives inside and out, their triumphs and sorrows. This book was certainly intriguing and I couldn't put it down. It's not a period of history I usually read about, opting for the tudors, but it was well worth going down a different path.

Everytime I thought I had work the plot out I was proved wrong. Having never read a Sarah Bower book before I would certainly read more of her works. I definately recommend this book.

I loved this series as a child and I think alot of children will enjoy it, if they aren't very good at reading this book will still be great for them with it been like a comic strip.

I found this short novella on the Kindle Store for free and so I thought that I would give it a try. I thought that this was a rather sweet story with friends becoming lovers, it was a little bit predictable in certain areas and the tempo of the book didn't keep the same throughout it, it did have dull/boring moments. I dont think it would have worked as a full length novel as I feel there would be quite alot of dull moments, also this book needs to be brought upto date as there are a few terms that people just do not use anymore. But it was an okay quick read for if you have nothing to do.

This is a short little novella that I found on the Kindle Store for free and so I thought that I would give it a try. Two of my favourite genres.... thriller and romance...could this book manage to pull it off??

In my opinion it didn't pull it off very well, with it been a short story the ending of the book felt like the author had just rushed it, you didn't really get to know the characters, there wasn't much depth to the story (some short stories can have depth too them), it might have worked better as a full length novel rather than a novella. However dispite all of this I did enjoy reading itamd think it is a good read.

This is another great addition to the Thomas Chaloner series. In this book Thomas returns back to London where within hours he is thinking about the thefts that have being going on and soon gets dragged into more investigations that involves many things such as threats and stolen corpses. It is full of twists and turns that compell the reader to keep turning the pages to find out where it is going to go next.
Susanna Gregory writes in such a way that the reader feels like they are actually there going on the investigation with Thomas Chaloner, the way she describes the characters and the setting/surroundings paints a very vivid image into the mind of the reader making it more realistic. The characters were interesting and the storyline kept you reading on to find out what would happen next. The author described the characters in good detail which helped to relate to the characters especially Josh who is the main character as instead of a confident bigheaded male lead, this one is actually pretty terrible when it comes to women which makes a nice change as he seems more vulnerable. It is a very gripping thriller that isn't too overly complicated and is easy to read, I would definately recommend giving it a go.

This book is incredibly well written I love the writing style, the way she can draw the reader into the book and make it feel like the characters are real and that it is actually happening. The descriptions of the characters make them feel very life like and adds a great depth to the book. The description of New York really does just make you want to take off on a planen and go there straight away! I also love the added bit at the back of the book of great places to go in New York which makes it not only an amazing book but also a great little travel guide! As I love James Bond I was abit sceptical about reading a 'James Bond' book not written by Iam Fleming, but I must admit I really really enjoyed reading this book. It was packed full of action that was described in amazing detail it felt like you were actually there with them. It is a seriously good read and a refreshing one, with the writing style of William Boyd coming through as a unique writer who isn't trying to be Ian Fleming.

I thought that this was an incredible book to read, it immediately grabbed hold of my attention and just refused to let it go! This is a truly great psychological fiction novel that will get your brain and imagination running, it is sure to expand your imagination and make your literature love grow even more! This is the first book I have read by this author but I will definitely be reading more from this author!
After her father's murder, Emily Quinns finds herself in a jail cell being charged with first degree murder, which she has absolutely no recollection about! She is shunned by her mother and hires a psychiatrist in order to protect the family name, the psychiatrist soon becomes sympathetic towards Emily and he is determined to find out the reason behind why she tries to embody the characters she has created in her scrapbook. Through trying to find out the reasons behind the way Emily behaves, they uncover lots of family secrets that have been hidden well until now that is, secrets of violence and abuse!
This book is brilliantly written, and the character of Emily Quinn really causes the reader to have lots of sympathy towards her, you really feel for her and want the doctor to find out what is causing her to want to embody the characters that she has created herself in her scrapbook. When you are reading this book it is more like it is a real life story rather then a fiction book, I would definitely recommend this book to readers over 13 years old, and to anybody who enjoys reading books that really get into your mind and brain.

This was a very intriguing book, full of mystery and secrets. It took about 2pages to get into the story and get hooked on it, it was fast paced and kept you wondering what the 'unholy book of mischief' was about. It was brilliantly written and you learn alot from the book. The books it's self is like a book of unholy mischief. I would recommend it for anybody who likes books full of mystery, secrets, intrigue and adventure. You feel like your in the book and doing what they are doing with the great description of the setting, surroundings and characters you feel like you know them all.
I couldn't put this book down at all! I thought it was absolutely amazing and when I did put it down between chapters it was still on my mind, the characters are amazing, very well described and fit perfectly in the story and setting. I would recommend this book to anybody who is wanting to try this genre out, I don't think you'll be disappointed. I cant fault this book at all.
This book is set in 1498, it features a orphan boy called Luciano who is chosen to be an apprentice chef at the doge's palace. He goes from living on the streets of Venice scrounging for food and causing mischief, to helping in the doge's palace, this gives the book a feel good factor straight away as you already feel happy for Luciano. While he is learning the art of cooking he suddenly finds himself on the hunt with his maestro for an ancient tomb. but is the head chef hiding important information from him? This book is full of mystery, twists and turns, and a little hint of romance!
This is by far one of the best books I have ever read, I am so glad that I managed to come across this book and I would definitely look out for more books by Elle Newmark

This book is not a 'self-help' type of book but rather a series of essays on some of the challenges that are involved when you are on a creative pursuit.
I did really enjoy reading this book and I thought that it had a lot of good points and advice that could help a lot of people in what they are doing. The first couple of paragraphs feel to read more like magic realism but as the book goes on to become more down-to-earth and sensible. I would recommend this book to anyone who is needing some advice to help them with their creativity.

Review: Wintersmith

Wintersmith Wintersmith by Terry Pratchett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Published: 27/09/2007
Author: Terry Pratchett
Recommended for: fans of fantasy novels

This is another amazing book in the Discworld series (number 35), in this book we meet the character Tiffany Aching. She is a really wonderful, likeable and funny character who adds a great amount of fun to the novel. In this book we go on the adventure with her when the spirit of winter (the wintersmith) falls in love with her! If she doesnt figure out a way to deal with him there will never be spring again, however she gets the help of the Nac Mac Feegles (whether she wants it or not!), they are determined to help her out.
Terry Pratchett describes the characters in such great detail that you feel like they are actually real, the Nac Mac Feegles are so funny they will definately have you laughing! The way he describes the setting of the world they are in makes you feel like you are there with them, like it is a real place. It has great depth too it, it is a really good book to read and got lost it. It is one that is classed as 'young adult' but I think it doesn't matter what age you are when reading this book you will still enjoy it just as much!

I won this book for free through GoodReads FirstReads and this is my review after reading it. I thought that this was a very well written book that also contained a brilliant and captivating storyline. When I entered the competition for this book I knew it wasn't my normal kind of book to read but I thought I would have a change and see if I do like it....it turns out that I really do!The way that the author has described the characters in detail makes them seem more realistic and they are easy to understand and relate to throughout the novel. It was easy to adjust to the writters style and technique and it was a real pleasure to read the novel. I would definately read more by this author!

I received this book through GoodReads FirstReads competition for free.

This is the first book that I have read in the Evidence series and so I thought that maybe I might feel like I had missed loads out and that I would be completely lost...but this didn't happen, I still enjoyed reading the book even though I hadn't read the other 3 novels in the series.
The books focuses on the characters of Isabel and Alec who you can feel the romantic chemistry growing between throughout the book. It is packed with suspense, action and romance which for me is the perfect combination! I was very well written by Rachel Grant who manages to write in such a way that the reader gets completely caught up in what happens in the story and what is going on between the characters it is as if we are stood watching it all play out. Both Isabel and Alec are very likeable characters who are fun to get to know and who are realistic. The Point of View switches between Isabel and Alec which adds that bit more depth too the characters. I am definately going to read some more books in the series!

This is the 5th book in the Hellequin Chronicles, even though I haven't read any of the other books, yet, I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything, the book was easily to get into and easy to get lost in. This book features the character of Nate Garrett aka Hellequin, who finds out that the group he thought was dead are very much alive and are looking for him so they can take out their revenge!
This is an amazing and fascinating book too read, I would definitely recommend this book to pretty much anyone, it has an amazing pace that keeps up right throughout the novel, it keeps on springing surprises at the reader when you are reading them. It is a perfect Urban Fantasy book and it definitely makes me want to read the rest of the series, I think I have found a new author to love!
Nate is a truly great character to read about he is possibly the most arrogant character you will even read about.... but he is extremely loyal too his friends and is determined to makes everything right again in the world. Everything about this book made me want to keep on reading and makes me want to read more books in this series. Steve McHugh is a extremely talented author and when you read this book I am sure you will agree with me!

This is another great book in the famous Discworld series, in this book we are transported to the magical, mystical world that Terry Pratchett has created. We meet characters such as: Rincewind, Luggage, The Libarian, DEATH and Mustrum Ridcully.
In the book we go on another great adventure with Rincewind (the wizard who can't quite spell wizard) and his faithful companion Luggage, this book can be read as a stand alone book which is great if you havent managed to track down all of the series yet. It is full of funny moments that will have you laughing and maybe even crying with laughter, the writing style is done in a way that makes you be able to visualise the conversations that the characters are having with each other as if you are actually there in the room with them. This is a great book for young adults and adults, it is sure to make your imagination stretch and expand. It is one that is also very hard to put down and step away from, you are sure to find yourself back reading it. I love this book!

Review: The Book of Fires

The Book of Fires The Book of Fires by Jane Borodale
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

First off...I fell in love with this book! It is set in 1752 where poor Agnes Trussel runs away to London after falling pregnant due to a rather horrible man, she doesn't want to bring shame or disappointment upon her family or make them have another mouth to feed so she feels it is her best option.
On her journey down to London she meets the mysterious woman called Lettice Talbot who gives her an address as to where she can find somewhere to live, but while looking for it she stumbles across a residence looking for someone to hire, she ends up the assistant to a firework maker called Mr J Blacklock. The book is based in the point of view of Agnes, who is a really wonderful character and who you can easily feel for as she is going through the unwanted pregnancy and wondering what will happen to her life and going through the turmoil with her as she tried to find someone to marry so the child wont be born in shame. Each other the characters bring something strong to the book and without them the book just wouldn't work, they add a great depth to the novel and helps you to get lost in the book easily. I love this and would recommend it to everyone!

This is a very well written book that the world that is the setting is very realistic and a very interesting place to be. The author describes the setting very well and sets a very vivid image in your mind of the world they are in. This is a book that is not very much about zombies eating people.....but more about how a group of people try to survive zombies taking over. This is part of an incredible series of books that are all incredible.

This book is a very beautiful and touching insight into India and what it is like there. This book is an honest account of what it is like to live in India, I will admit there was parts of it that made me tear up which just shows what an amazing author Piers Moore Ede is, the writing style and the way he uses words evokes your emotions and makes you see things from their perspective. This book shows the life of the millions of people that are living a life in poverty and how hard they work to be able to take care of their family and the length's they will go to in order to make sure their family is happy, well and fed. This book will make you look at your life again and make you see just how lucky we are and how different their life is, for there still to be families, baby, old people living in poverty, on the streets in the 21st century isn't right and this book shows just how much they are still struggling now. Well another excellent book from Marian Keyes. Loved the book with its quirky Irish humour. It follows the trials and tribulations of Helen Walsh private investigator and her battles with depression. The way Marian Keyes describes the main character with such depth makes it feels as though you know her personally. Helen's family especially her mother is hilarious to read about. The book is hard to put down once you have starting reading: about Helen losing her flat, her ex boyfriend's reappearance and current boyfriend Artie complete with kids and ex wife Vonnie popping in and out. Will Helen find Wayne the missing member of The Laddz who are having a come back concert? Will she get together with Artie or ex Jay Parker? And who hit Helen over the head and tried to knock her out? Read this book...it's a must!!!!!

I saw this book on the Kindle Store for free and so I thought that I would give it a try.

This book is quite a fun book to read, and I found that the characters are easy to relate to, and I am sure alot of readers will be able to relate better to them than I did. To me isn't wasn't the greatest book ever written however I did think it was a good book.
I would say that women who have been married for 10 years or more, have children and find that life is suddenly become mundane and not what you expected, would definitely be able to relate too the main character, Mara Jane Mulligan. Her sudden road trip makes her realise that her life is missing the abundance that she thought her life would always have.

This is a very good novella by the amazing Tess Gerritsen, it keeps up a good pace throughout the novella, some part of it weren't very believable at all but it still is quite a good book. However I do much prefer the full length novels. I think that this would be a good book to recommend for fan's of Tess Gerritsen and Rizzoli and Isles. If you love books that involve vampires, good cop bad cop and female cops in designer clothes then this is definitely the type of book for you as there will be alot that you love. This is good if you are needing something to read in between the TV series or if you have a few spare minutes.
