Review: The Dying Place

The Dying Place The Dying Place by Luca Veste
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Published: 04/12/2014
Author: Luca Veste

As soon as I started to read this book I was immediately hooked on it. I found it to be powerful, addictive, smart and very well written. This is the first book I have read by this author but it will definitely not be the last! The book features the wonderful detectives DI Murphy and DS Rossi, who are trying to uncover the mystery of who is taking all the young boys, when they find the body of Dean Hughes on a church step with clear torture marks on him, it is a race to find out who did it before there are more victims.
This book was extremely well written and flowed nicely throughout the whole novel, meaning there wasn't a dull or boring part to read. The fast pace of the novel makes you want to keep reading it and want to get to the end of it to uncover the secret. The people who are holding them hostage are unknown to the reader, they just go by letter of the Greek Alphabet, this was an aspect of the book that I really liked as it felt like I was part of the detectives team.
I would definitely read another book by Luca Veste and I would recommend this book to people who enjoy thrillers.

Review: Jane Eyre

Jane Eyre Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Published: 21/05/2008 (first published 1847)
Author: Charlotte Bronte
Recommended for: fans of classics

this wasnt my type of book at all. But however the writing and desciption is brilliant it just doesnt capture my attention and keep it. This may be due to the fact that I had to do it for an exam and so was made to read it over and over again. The characters all bring something to the story, there isn't really any secondary characters as the story wouldn't be the same if they weren't there anymore. This is an absolute classic book which I am glad to have read but I am slightly sad that I didn't enjoy it, I may give it another chance when I am older and not doing an exam.

Just finished reading this brilliant book I got for Christmas. For anyone who enjoys fiction with a historial theme this book is a must. It has an excellent discriptive text that makes you feel as though you are in the book going through all the trials and tribulations and battles with Clothar. It seems they had the same cold wet weather then as we do now! Seriously I thoroughly enjoyed this book as can't wait to read The Last Stand which I also received for Christmas. You definately need to read this book.

I found this short book (74 pages) on the Kindle Store for free and it looked really interesting.
This book features alot of famour cases of doctors that have killed their patients the people that are meant to be there to help them. The cases are looked at in detail (some in rather vivid detail) and they show you some parts that the media didn't want you to know, they follow the cases closely right to the end so you find out what happened to the person in the end. It is very well written and one that is interesting to read if you have a few spare minutes to fill and prefer true crime.

I found this book on the Kindle Store for free and as I love true crime books. This is most definately not the type of book for children or young adults to read as it explains the crimes in great detail not leaving out any gory facts, some of the facts that feature in this book are ones that were previously unknown. This is a great book if you like reading about true crimes and what happened in the end, as alot of the time you hear about the crime but then they never say what happened to the criminal. This book features the crimes of people such as: Bonnie and Clyde, Al Capone, Ruby Ridge, Waco and many more.

The way the first book is written alittle bit rough but it is easy to adjust to the style of the author. I thought that all three books were very well written and all had very captivating storylines that just makes you want to read it, the books don't really work as stand alone it is better to read them in the right order. Published: 25/12/2013
Author: Dylan Jones
Recommended for: fan's of Sci-fi
Edition: Kindle

When I first read the description of this book I thought that it was quite a unique storyline and not one I had read before, which made it less predictable. The book switches from the past to the dystopian future, not revealing which one of the 2 is actually the present. The version I read was the Kindle version which as to be expected had a few grammer mistakes and spelling mistakes (which lost it a star with me). There is alot the fact that throughout the book it keeps referring to characters by using different names, which is rather confusing and hard to keep up with. However dispite all that it is a rather good book to read and I did enjoy reading it.

I thought that this book was incredibly well written, the descriptions about the characters, the setting, the surroundings really made the book come alive to me. It is aimed at children but I think any age could enjoy it. For children it would be a good book to help stretch their imaginations to new lengths. It does start off a little bit slow at the beginning but the plot soon quickens up. This isn't a book that is action packed it has a little bit of action/adventure, but it has everything in it that a good childrens book needs, good interesting characters that they can relate to. I think it is a good read for people read childrens novels as well.

Review: The Needle in the Blood

The Needle in the Blood The Needle in the Blood by Sarah Bower
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Published: 01/04/2004
Author: Sarah Bower
Recommended for: fans of historical fiction

I was hooked on this book before I read it by the front cover. It tells of the story of the conquest of Britain by William the Conqueror and the commission of the sewing of the tapestry by Bishop Odo of Bayeux, William's brother depicting the story of the battle.

This book is superbly written in exquisite detail. The story touches on the unlikely romance between Odo and Gytha handmaiden of the fallen Saxon King Harold. I feel as though I have survived the harsh winters with Gytha and the other seamstresses and know their lives inside and out, their triumphs and sorrows. This book was certainly intriguing and I couldn't put it down. It's not a period of history I usually read about, opting for the tudors, but it was well worth going down a different path.

Everytime I thought I had work the plot out I was proved wrong. Having never read a Sarah Bower book before I would certainly read more of her works. I definately recommend this book.

The Girl in the Red Coat The Girl in the Red Coat by Kate Hamer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Published: 26/02/2015

I thought that this book was extremely well written and captivated my attention from the very first sentence. This book is about little 8 year old Carmel Wakeford who tragically becomes separated from her parents at a festival, so when a gentleman finds her and claims to be her grandad she is going to believe him. While her parents are desperately trying to find her with no luck Carmel is sent on a journey that eventually makes her question who she is and who she is going to turn out to be. For a début novel this one is exceptional and it really kept hold of my attention right until the very last word.
The characters that are in this book are extremely well described and the author adds a lot of detail which really makes them come alive in the readers mind, it is like you are there watching everything happen in front of your eyes. The novel is narrated in the voice of little Carmel and also her mother, this is a very interesting method as they are both living through the same event but you get two different view points on it. When I was reading this novel I found myself caring a great deal for Carmel and her mother great especially as the mother (Beth) had just recently split up from her husband and then had to suffer through losing her daughter at the local festival.
I thought that this was a really great read and even though it left a lot of questions unanswered at the end of it, I truly enjoyed reading it and engaging in the novel.

Review: The Mystery of the Blue Train

The Mystery of the Blue Train The Mystery of the Blue Train by Agatha Christie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Published: first published 1928
Author: Agatha Christie
Recommended for: fans of murder mysteries.

This is one of the lesser known novels by Agatha Christie that she wrote in a slight rush as she needed the money to support herself and her daughter, although she herself didn't think that this way anywhere near her best work I was eager to read it as I am with all Agatha Christie novels. I think that she was being abit hard on herself, it wasnt her best but it certainly wasn't a rubbish book to read (in my opinion).
This is a novel featuring the brilliant, intelligent Hercule Poirot where he starts the novel on a train journey to the Riviera where he meets Ruth Kettering, an american heiress. The next morning all her private affairs are known to the public as she is found murdered in her compartment, all Poirot has to go on is a suspicious man hanging around the victim, which as we know is more than enough for Poirot to find out who it was and as soon as he starts to investigate the secrets of Ruth Ketterings life comes to light.

I found this set of novels on the Kindle Store for free and so I thought that I would give them a try. I thought that they were a really good set of books that were all expertly written. I throughly enjoyed reading them and think other crime genre lovers will love the books too. There was the odd spelling and grammer error that I come to expect in the Kindle version of books, which for me would normally make the review drop a star...however for this book I just didn't have the heard to do as it is definately a 4star novel!
Just the name 'A Triple Thriller Fest' makes you want to read it, it grabs your attention and pulls you in (if you're a fan of thrillers), it makes you want to sink your teeth into it...and for me I couldn't stop reading them I thought they were brilliant novels to read, they kept your attention the whole way through (some parts did seem abit predictable but that might be due to me having read so many thriller books). The author has a very good writting technique that manages to keep the pace all the way through the novels so there isn't a dull part to read. There wasn't one that I didn't enjoy or thought that it was weak compared to the other ones. They were all a really good read!

Review: The Blackstone Key

The Blackstone Key The Blackstone Key by Rose Melikan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I thought that this was a brilliantly written and very intriguing book to read. It is set in 1795 in England where we follow the life and adventures of the main character Mary Finch, she is a character that it very easy to get along with, she is likeable and seems very realistic. All of the characters that feature in the book play an important part too the storyline there isn't any minor characters which adds great depth too the book and makes it even easier to get hooked into.
This isn't my normal type of book that I would read, however the front of the book is very eye catching and the blurb is also very interesting and makes you want to delve into it and read it straight away. This book really shows how talented the author is, even though the journey that Mary Finch goes on is long-winded she doesnt fail to keep hold of the readers attention.
In this novel Mary Finch is going on her travels from Cambridge to the East Suffolk coast where her uncle has asked her to visit him, she can't wait to get on with the journey to see her uncle that she has never seen before, what she doesn't bank on though is the dramatic twists and turns that her adventure will take and the people that she will meet on her journey. The journey she goes on is very well described by the author and paints a very vivid picture in the readers mind of what England looked like in the 1700's, it transports you there and makes you feel like you are really there. The book is one that is very easy to get hooked on and get drawn into. I would definately recommend this book to other people to give it a try, I did and I am very glad that I did as it was a thrill to read it and it will not be the last book I read by this author!

Review: A Child al Confino: The True Story of a Jewish Boy and His Mother in Mussolini's Italy

A Child al Confino: The True Story of a Jewish Boy and His Mother in Mussolini's Italy A Child al Confino: The True Story of a Jewish Boy and His Mother in Mussolini's Italy by Eric Lamet

I saw this book on the Kindle Store for free and I thought that it looked really interesting so I gave it a go. It was a really interesting topic to read a book on, it gives a view on the lives of Jewish people living in Italy when the Nazis invaded there, I have normally only read about Jewish people living in Germany,Poland and Austria when the Nazis invaded, so it was nice to see it front a different point of view.

The story did kind of jump alittle bit, it didn't all connect together but that might have been due to the fact that the author was remember back to when he was between 7 and 13. It was a really good book to read, I might have cried a little (okay...I did), the story really puts you in Eric's shoes and what life was like for him in his childhood..which is meant to be the happiest time of your life.

The kindle version wasn't edited very well which lost it a star, but it was still a very good book and I would recommend it to people who like true stories from around that time.

Review: Coercion

Coercion Coercion by Tim Tigner
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book for free through GoodReads FirstReads competitions.

When I first read the blurb of this book I couldn't wait to read it as it sounded like my kind of book, however when I started to read the book I was completely lost! It did all become a bit clearer as the book went on, but because it wasn't a very clear beginning it made me want to continue reading to find out what had happened and what the reason was behind Franks death (Alex's brother).
There wasn't any part of the book where I didn't want to continue or found it a bit boring or obvious to read. I thought it was a really good thriller that kept my attention throughout the novel and managed to keep a good pace throughout. If you enjoy reading fast paced books that will pass the hours by then this is going to be a great book for you! The writing style of Tim Tigner is very good and the description he uses reading makes the book come to life in your mind so you can actually see it happening in your imagination.
I very much enjoyed this book and I would love to read more books by Tim Tigner!
